During this period, the site completed their new PREA policies, which were updated from the old to cover every standard. Each standard is listed in the corresponding section of the policies. The policies also cover LGBTQ+ directives from the NJ Attorney General. The site has also identified a new victim advocate service, and alongside them, have worked along our Prosecutor's Office to create a response plan for assault and post-assault follow up. The site has solidified their response and investigation protocols to where team members are familiar and can guide and direction responses.

The site did not have much to report this period. The site is working on getting cameras up to cover blind spots. The site also held staff meetings over PREA implementation. The facility has begun revising their staff PREA training and has built a relationship with their local rape crisis center and state police to respond to criminal investigations.

The site's MOU's are being reviewed to provide reporting and investigation resources. Camera system upgrade is being reviewed by the provider. The site, overall, is struggling to stay within the time periods of the project plan.

This site submitted the refined project plan and the provisional budget for approval at the beginning of the reporting period. The site then developed a risk screening tool which they hope to implement with their new medical services contractor soon. They have also started to connect with potential community partners, but have not entered into any agreements.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Safe Prisons Program is having a retreat September 24-26, 2024 at the Carolina Creek Christian Camp. The retreat will be for 210 people including Safe Prisons Program (SPP) and Security Threat Group (STG) staff from each of the agency?s units. SPP and STG staff are back-ups for one another and TDCJ determined it to be beneficial for them to come together for this multi-day event

NVJDC has identified the facility's needs during a time when PREA implementation has been challenging, due to the impact of the COVID-19 on staffing and maintaining personnel. NVJDC has identified specific personnel and which PREA Standards are relevant to their work duties. NVJDC has actively sought out resources through coaching, cohort and peer to peer meetings.

During this reporting period, the site has experienced extensive turnover in staff. Based on this, the facility has been unable to provide refresher trainings. However, eLearning training for staff is available. Additionally, the site has begun implementing the resident education video at intake.
