Requesting to use funds to support event costs associated with AIJC 2017. Tribal Judicial Institute will be assisting the National American Indian Court Judges Association by providing input through the planning phase of AIJC and will provide faculty for workshops at the conference. The AIJC 2015 costs were covered from other program funding sources. Funds will also be used to deliver office based and on site technical assistance.

Center staff has conducted 2 phone calls and 10 email correspondence with the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indian. The correspondence conducted has been to discuss strategies and next steps with technical assistance. Staff also had a meeting with the domestic violence coordinator to discuss developing training opportunities for their Advisory Board and to discuss plans for conducting caseload analysis.

Center staff conducted 10 email correspondence with the Mille Lacs tribe to organize and code data from qualitative interviews and focus groups conducted on the Mille Lacs Band Child Welfare System. Staff also began analyzing data and organizing findings by themes. Staff also emailed the grantee to request additional information needed to analyze the data for child welfare system needs assessment.

NCJA’s National Forum showcased programs, research and technologies , assisting more than 400 justice practitioners and decision makers in states, local communities and tribal nations address pressing public safety issues. Co-sponsored by the Justice Research and Statistics Association (JRSA) and the IJIS Institute (IJIS), the Forum is the only criminal justice conference that brings together leaders from federal, state, local and tribal government and the public and private sector to exchange information, sharing real life solutions that are working across the country.

RAND conducted the third in-person meeting of the Criminal Justice Technology Forecasting Group, to include facilitating, dynamically capturing and analyzing the discussion and findings, and providing logistics and administrative support. The purpose of this meeting was to broadly survey inter-related technological, social, and political trends with the greatest impacts on criminal justice, discuss what the impacts are and will likely be in the near future (2-5 years), and develop potential responses.

Provided TTA to an attorney of Australia Legal Aid in Sydney on all aspects of holistic defense. While Australia Legal Aid is primarily a Civil Legal Services organization there are many aspects to holistic defense that are applicable.
