On May 11, 2021 Vera presented at the Ohio Housing Authorities Conference. During this two-day virtual summit, Erica Crew, Program Analyst II led a presentation on Opening Doors recommendations for PHAs and admissions policies including the new two-pager. The discussion was followed by small breakout groups led by Vera staff for PHAs interested in learning more about the recommendations.

This quarterly call with the Innovator Counties gave the counties an update on Set, Measure, Achieve and a discussion of the challenges or barriers counties face to joining the call to action. The call also provided counties an opportunity to discuss their highlights and challenges this year in addressing SMI in jails.

This quarterly call with the Innovator Counties provided the counties an overview of plans for the Stepping Up call to action to Set, Measure, Achieve and gave the counties an update on the prevalence reduction guidance document and the Four Key Measures data dashboard. The counties also had time to share their accomplishments and challenges.

Remediation is initiated by PMO and is a supportive process for auditors who have been identified by PMO as having
specific challenges or deficiencies in their auditing practice. Remediation may include focused training, assessment of improved knowledge and understanding, coaching, and practice-based work with an auditor.
The intent is for auditors going through remediation to have a plan designed specifically for their needs, and not a one-size-fits-all approach.

After a direct referral from the PMO, the PRC engaged in one remediation case. The case involved an auditor who needed additional support in auditing standards 115.21, 115.53, 115.401(j), and 115.401(o). The remediation plan included education components, testing, and engagement with the PRC to put the remediation work into practice. The auditor completed all components of the remediation work on May 13, 2020.

The DOJ Review Panel on Prison Rape is comprised of three members, and a new group was recently empaneled. The PRC was invited to present to the panel as part of a two-day long orientation for its new members regarding the state of PREA implementation, progress that has been made on addressing sexual abuse and sexual harassment in confinement, and challenges that the work still faces.

The agency watched CHJ's Specialized Opioid Case Management webinar, where the offer for TA was made. The TTA request has both a QRT element and a peer recovery element, which our BJA policy advisor suggested that CHJ team up with Altarum. Their goal is to understand better-emerging practices or other guidance to help make sure their agency is maximizing their efforts.

Chris is reaching out to schedule a phone call with representatives from Cuyahoga County to gauge interest in a trauma-informed approach training in Ohio. Once a phone conversation is held, if the grantee is interested, SAKI TTA will begin working with RAINN representatives to ensure sufficient and effective planning of the training is maintained. The training might be a combination of in-person and virtual delivery depending on preference of the trainer and trainees.
