SEARCH staff assisted the Belleville (IL) Police Department, with information concerning a stolen Sony PlayStation gaming console. Staff provided the requester with three documents that outlined the circumstances in which Sony Entertainment could obtain an IP address for the console, how to serve legal process on Sony Entertainment, and how to trace the IP address back to the stolen console.

SEARCH staff assisted the Allegheny County (PA) Police, with information concerning a credit card fraud involving a Sony PlayStation account. The victim had allowed a neighbor to use a credit card for one $10.00 game purchase, but the credit card was used for charges in excess of $1200.00, all on the Sony PlayStation network. Staff suggested that legal process be served on Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC for the transnational information concerning each of the charges placed on the credit card, to include the account ownership and IP information associated with each transaction.

SEARCH staff successfully provided assistance to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife by showing them how to search for a Facebook profile, save screenshots of the profile using free automated tools, and identify the Facebook ID number. SEARCH staff also provided information on how to issue a preservation order and legal request using the Facebook Law Enforcement Portal.

SEARCH staff successfully assisted the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office (MA) with saving a video from Facebook. SEARCH staff provided the method that was developed by SEARCH staff that uses the mobile version of the Facebook save to capture the video locally to a computer, which is a feature that is unavailable from the web version of a Facebook video.
