SEARCH staff assisted the Selma Police Department with locating contact information for publicdata.com, a website offering access to public records from local, state, and federal agencies. Staff located the publicdata.com website’s “Contact Us” page, which contained contact information, including address, phone, and email addresses, and provided it to the requester.

SEARCH staff assisted the Moraga Police Department in tracking an IP address involved in a threatened suicide. Staff guided the requester through using the SEARCH Tool Bar application, which they already had installed, and identified the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that owned the Internet Protocol (IP) address. Staff then guided the requester to the SEARCH ISP List, where emergency contact information was located for the ISP.

SEARCH staff helped the California Highway Patrol to locate contact information for Lycamobile, a mobile virtual network operator. Staff located contact information from the Lycamobile website, and legal filings, including mailing address, fax and phone. Information was provided to the requester.

SEARCH staff assisted the Chowchilla Police Department with information concerning a stolen Sony PlayStation gaming console. Staff provided the requester with three documents that outlined the circumstances in which Sony Entertainment could obtain an IP address for the console, how to serve legal process on Sony Entertainment, and how to trace the IP address back to the stolen console.

The Jackson Police Department is seeking an assessment of their Homicide & Robbery unit. They are also seeking a survey to be distributed to personnel to determine effectiveness of training- whether or not it is being fully applied in the field. The Jackson Police department is a current VRN site, and the assessment is being transitioned over to the NRTAC. The Jackson PD determined that they no longer wished to proceed with the TTA request and advised the NRTAC of this decision via email on 6/28/17.

Assisted a trooper with the Maryland State Police with understanding whether the Privacy Protection Act protected documentary materials in support of a pending publication, when those documentary materials constituted child pornography (in reference to a case that he was currently working).
