The TIRW is for tribes who have, or are interested in having, a reentry program to serve tribal members returning to the community from federal, state, or tribal correctional facilities. This TIRW is designed to provide participants with the tools to develop effective reentry plans based on sharing operational, organizational, and culture-based concepts and processes that identify critical services and interventions needed to reduce recidivism and victimization within Oklahoma.

This workshop was presented at the APPA 2023 Winter Regional Training Institute in Omaha, NE on February 7, 2023. This presentation is part 3 of 4 on the Reentry Toolkit developed as part of this funding opportunity. Parts 1 & 2 were provided as pre-recorded webinars. This workshop focused on engaging the client in the reentry program by providing information to enhance the attends’ knowledge and skill set to successfully engage clients in their reentry programs and built on the information provided in the pre-recorded webinars.

Kenneth Akini, Chief Judge of Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians Tribal Court reached out the TLPI on 02/17/2023 to request technical assistance for the Michigan Tribal State Court Forum . Judge Akini contacted TLPI because of our work in the areas of tribal-state collaborations and tribal-state court forums. Judge Akini is chairing the Michigan Tribal, State, Federal Judicial Forum’s Subcommittee on Funding and the Forum would like TLPI to provide technical assistance on funding opportunities for tribal-state court forums.

Trish Thackston, BJA Policy Advisor, reached out to TLPI to provide speaker support for a symposium coordinated by the Oklahoma Supreme Court and the Sovereignty Symposium, Inc. The event is titled “The Sovereignty Symposium XXXIV”. The Sovereignty Symposium XXXIV took place on June 8-9, 2022, at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Sovereignty Symposium was established to provide a forum in which ideas concerning common legal issues can be exchanged in a scholarly, non-adversarial environment.

Melissa Pope, Chief Judge of Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Court reached out the TLPI to request technical assistance for the Michigan Tribal State Court Forum . Judge Pope contacted TLPI because of our work in the areas of tribal-state collaborations and tribal-state court forums. The Forum would like TLPI to provide a facilitator to assist with the cross jurisdictional communication as well as present on the topic of best practices in tribal-state collaboration and tribal-state court forum enhancement and sustainability.
