The utilization of the virtual platforms is a core component of eLearning deliverables. IIR leverages technology to develop and improve virtual learning platforms. Recordings of webinars and podcasts are published and made available for future viewing on the CenTF website’s Training and Technical Assistance Web page.

IIR continued its work to maintain the 28 CFR Part 23 website and LMS to ensure proper performance and efficient user experiences when accessing and taking the online training.

During the January 1 through June 30, 2023 reporting period, 5263 new users were vetted and approved to complete the training. 5,723 certificates of completion were issued. This totals 106,898 certificates of completion earned since the online training program’s inception in 2009.

CJI continued its close working relationship with the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ). At the CCJJ’s invitation, CJI delivered two presentations: A detailed report of its system assessment findings to the CCJJ staff, and a report on policy options delivered to the full Commission. In addition, CJI met regularly with CCJJ leadership and provided research and counsel on the commission’s priorities for the upcoming legislative session.

CJI communicated its primary findings to the Utah Prisoner Advocate Network on May 8, 2023.

State leaders – Governors, legislators, and agency officials – play a critical role in ensuring public safety by: setting priorities, identifying policies and programs to achieve them, and allocating finite resources that impact every area of the justice system.

This training program will utilize the Bring Your Own Case (BYOC) model to provide needed training to capital defense teams, as well as provide the basis for ongoing technical assistance. The combined defense team will work with a faculty of leading experts on issues directly relevant to the defenders' training needs. The agenda is developed in accordance with the BYOC model and is tailored to the specific training needs of the trainees. The program was preceded by a single-day train-the-trainers program for program facilitators.
