PRC staff Stroud appeared in person at the CJJA New Directors and Superintendent's training in San Antonio, TX. Stroud presented a one-hour presentation on Sexual Safety in Confinement: Opportunities for Leadership.

Where an auditor?s work has been reviewed in either the peer review process or a documentation review and demonstrates a misunderstanding of PREA Standards or difficulty complying with practices that are outlined in the PREA Auditor Handbook, PRC staff works with the PMO to define remediation steps to support the auditor?s learning and continuing audit practice. Remediation plans include PMO-approved resources, tools, and mentoring by a peer of the auditor or PRC staff. After referrals from the PMO, the PRC engaged in five remediation cases. One was concluded during this period.

PRC staff and contractors managed by PRC staff conduct documentation reviews of individual auditor's PREA audits when directed to do so by the PREA Management Office. Reviewers assess auditors? interim and final reports and reviews the information and documentation auditors relied on to reach compliance determinations. By utilizing documentation uploaded to the OAS, reviewers consider both the documentation provided to an auditor by the facility and agency, as well as any additional documentation gathered onsite.

In the 20 years since the passage of the landmark PREA legislation, many practitioners, advocates, and survivors have worked to implement the law and end this public health crisis. Workshop presenters from the PREA Resource Center and our partner organizations Just Detention International and The Moss Group, Inc. shared highlights from PREA 20th anniversary events, including a brief video of historic moments.

The second quarter PREA Auditor Continuing Education event for 2025 was held on June 11, 2024 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. EST. The feature presentation was entitled The PREA Audit Site Review: Overview of Best Practices, Tips, Resources and Practical Considerations for Conducting Effective Site Reviews that featured PRC faculty: Erica Gammill, Talia Huff, Sydney Lofton, and Tracy Hill along with certified auditors Kristi Dietz and Asghar Mallick. The event included small group discussions of site review challenges and best practices with a report out from each group to the full group.

The first PREA Auditor Continuing Education event of 2024 was held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. The feature presentation was entitled The Meaning of Institutionalizing Practices Related to the PREA Standards and How Auditors Effectively and Accurately Determine Institutionalization. PRC faculty included Dana Shoenberg, Marion Morgan, Welcome Rose, and Talia Huff. The event included small group discussion of institutionalization scenarios with a report out from each group to the full group.
