On November 9, 2023, Vera and the representatives from the U.S. Department of Education attended a graduation at Ellsworth Correctional Facility in Kansas. Graduates from vocation programs, GED programs, and AA programs from Barton Community College participated in the ceremony. The college president and a board member were part of the event along with several faculty. Kansas Corrections Secretary Jeff Zmuda and Warden Don Langford were also key participants at the graduation. Monica Logothetis, Senior Advisor in the Office of the Deputy Secretary for ED, also made remarks.

This convening brings together Addressing the Needs of Incarcerated Parents and Their Minor Children grantees from across the country. Over the day and a half scheduled, we will cover topics that grantees have identified as a need for their programs or wish to learn more about.

The Rhode Island Public Safety Grant Administration Office has reached out for assistance with the development, distribution, and analysis of a survey. The survey aims to gather information on the comprehensive needs of the state's criminal justice system. Rhode Island plans to distribute this statewide survey to gain a better understanding of the crime trends in their communities. What makes this survey unique is that it includes community members and those with lived experience, such as survivors and justice-impacted individuals.
