Clackamas County requested TA for an education event to build awareness on stimulant use locally and nationally. AHP assisted the Clackamas County grantee with subject matter expert coordination for the delivery of their Emerging Stimulant Use Trends: Setting the Stage for a Local Conversation in Clackamas County Training on October 26, 2022. Dr. Rawson presented “Stimulants 2022: Epidemiology, Effects on the Body & Brain, and Clinical Challenges.”
The National Policing Institute was scheduled to present at the IACP 2021 Annual Conference, but upon cancellation, deferred registration to attend the IACP 2022 Annual Conference on October 15-18 in Dallas, Texas. This four-day event featured training, networking opportunities, and educational workshops on various topics important to law enforcement. The Institute's Senior Program Manager, Kerry Yerico, attended the conference to meet with FY22 local CGIC grantees and connect with executive leadership from current BJA grantee sites.
In honor of International Restorative Justice Week, the National Center on Restorative Justice (NCORJ) offered a 90-minute webinar on restorative justice in the criminal legal system. The webinar was intended for justice system actors and others looking to learn more about restorative justice approaches and how to incorporate them into the justice system. Panelists shared how they implement restorative justice practices, the evidence of effectiveness and impact on the carceral system, and any challenges experienced during the implementation process.

This discussion-based webinar, facilitated by the National League of Cities, highlighted local innovations in municipal criminal justice programs from Charlotte, North Carolina; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and St. Louis, Missouri. Participants heard from local leaders about their successes and challenges in ensuring that race equity is embedded within comprehensive safety planning, violence interruption programs, and alternative/civilian response models.
In collaboration with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, this webinar provided an in-depth overview of planning and implementation for a comprehensive crisis response system based on the Roadmap to an Ideal Crisis System Guide. The presentation discussed common challenges providers and policymakers face trying to fill this need as well as unique challenges based on type of community (rural, suburban, urban). It will also address how incorporating Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) can help achieve their long-term goals for crisis care.
The Council of State Governments Justice Center and Institute for Intergovernmental Research hosted a community of practice focused on first responder community and pre-arrest interventions for people with co-occurring disorders at risk for a crisis or experiencing a crisis. The session included a discussion about pathways for referring people at risk of crisis who have co-occurring mental health and substance use needs and key elements for their success. Participants engaged with the subject matter expert and other grantees focused on intercept 0 and 1.
