The NDCRC began conducting a study in 2020 on how treatment courts are portrayed in media. The study tracks mentions of "treatment court" and "drug court" terms in written news media and will catalog and codify the discourse to gauge perception of treatment courts. A first batch of data were collected in November and December of 2020; a second batch of data are being collected in January 2022.

In compliance with our BJA funding agreement, the NDCRC attended NADCP's RISE21 conference in-person, sponsoring a booth at the bronze level. Preparation began in spring of 2021 while booth materials and giveaways were designed and ordered. Eight full-time staff members attended the conference from Saturday to Wednesday and were present at the booth to network with attendees, answer questions, and demonstrate resources available from the NDCRC.

Priority Area 1: Reconvene the Justice Reinvestment II Working Group to monitor implementation and develop additional policy recommendations for improving post-prison treatment, services, and supervision.

Update: In November, CSG Justice Center staff executed Vermont’s seventh post-enactment Justice Reinvestment II Working Group meeting. This presentation focused on identified racial disparities in sentencing. To prepare, CSG Justice Center staff met with stakeholders to inform the discussion and recommendations that were shared during the presentation.

Update: In October, CSG Justice Center staff executed Vermont’s sixth post-enactment Justice Reinvestment II Working Group Meeting. To prepare, CSG Justice Center staff met with stakeholders to inform the discussion and policy options ahead of the October 12 meeting.

Update: In August, CSG Justice Center staff continued with their fifth post-enactment Justice Reinvestment Working Group meeting. Before the scheduled meeting, CSG Justice Center staff met remotely with Vermont stakeholders to discuss the upcoming meeting and share some general strategies to help reduce racial disparities in sentencing.
