This course introduces fundamental concepts and terminology related to computer networks. Topics include the importance of computer networks, types of computer networks, common network components, network topologies and media, the OSI and TCP/IP models of communication, and IP addressing. The course also addresses the role of law enforcement iin cybersecurity within the current landscape of digital crime.

This introductory course familiarizes participants with illegal darknet markets and associated forums, particularly the illicit goods and services offered, as well as successful law enforcement operations targeting these sites. Participants will gain practical knowledge on how to create anonymous accounts to access and monitor these sites and intelligence collection tactics for use in law enforcement investigations.

In todays cyber threat environment, attackers and defenders are constantly trying to outmaneuver each other and the stakes are higher than ever, particularly for mission-critical systems and communications. Understanding the methods and motivations of threat actors is crucial to developing a proactive program to defend against and prevent future attacks. In part one of our four part webinar series, we will introduce our insights and analysis of the most significant and impactful cyber threats facing public safety organizations.

This course presents awareness-level information on the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and how it is used to aid law enforcement investigations into terrorism and criminal activity. Students will be introduced to the BSA, the USA PATRIOT Act, and definitions of commonly-used terms. This course will also explain the various documents and forms filed by financial institutions under the BSA. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) will be discussed with an emphasis on services and resources provided to law enforcement.

Cybercrimes can and have been committed by organized criminal groups. This webinar introduces participants to the notion of cyber organized crime, the cyber-dependent and cyber-enabled crimes committed by organized criminal groups, the structure and organization of cyber organized criminal groups and roles of members within these groups, and the tools used by these groups. The clearnet and darknet spaces where these groups operate will also be explored.

This course will provide insight and information on the topic of wellness and mental health, focusing on stress and resilience in everyday policing. At the conclusion of this course, you will understand how stress affects the brain, alters behaviors and feelings, and tools to build resilience. It is imperative that law enforcement officers understand that to take care of others you must take care of yourself first. Wellness and mental health training is not an option, but a requirement to ensure you can sustain a healthy career and personal life.

The webinar covers one type of "crime as a service" (CaaS) offered on clearnet and darknet spaces, namely malware as a service (MaaS). Specifically, this webinar introduces participants to MaaS, the Clearnet, and Darknet sites where malware and MaaS are marketed, advertised, and sold, and information about them is distributed. Particularly, attention will be paid to the M.O., tactics, targets, and tools used by perpetrators of this cybercrime.

The investigation portion of the course will cover common consumer scams, how to identify suspects and their financial accounts and best processes for obtaining suspects records. The analysis portion of the course will cover the process of acquiring data, discuss methods for entering data, and provide strategies for finding patterns in data sets.

This course presents awareness-level information on a variety of topics related to white collar crime. The course covers basic definitions and terminology, common types of white collar crime, and the effects of white collar crime on society. Students learn to recognize and respond to common internet scams, provide assistance to victims of white collar crime, and recognize warning signs and red flags of criminal behavior. This course emphasizes the role of law enforcement in preventing and responding to white collar crime, and includes additional resources for combating this widespread problem.
