In collaboration with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Violence Reduction Network, an assessment of the Camden County, New Jersey, response to homicide offenses was performed at the request of Chief J. Scott Thomson. The purpose of this effort was to assist the Camden County efforts to reduce violent crime, conduct high-quality investigations, and produce successful prosecutions for homicide cases. The MCIT program engaged a subject-matter expert to assist with this this assessment—Detective John Skaggs of the Los Angeles Police Department.
