CSG JC staff conducted a site visit SCA FY14 comprehensive mentoring grantee Center for Self-Sufficiency in Milwaukee, WI. The purpose of this site visit was to assess quality of mentor matching strategy, data tracking, and sustainability planning.

CSG JC staff developed a cohesive picture of the grantee mentoring program, including: an overview of the program, mission and current activities, previous work conducted, and understanding of the program's current challenges and barriers.

The National Partnership hold a national Symposium each year. This year's Symposium was held in Denver, Colorado on 10/30 thru Nov.4th. Each year for the previous 5 years the Resource Center has sponsored a PREA Track at the Symposium. This years track includes 6 workshops. The Moss Group facilitated the track with presenters coming from the Resource Center, BJA, Moss Group, and the field. Early feedback was that those who attended the track were pleased with the content and the presenters.

Request for presenters from or sanctioned by PRC to deliver workshops and be present for all PRC workshops at the conference. There was a comprehensive track of PREA and sexual safety related workshops at the conference.

The site visit consisted of participation in the Arizona Recidivism Reduction Summit. This one-day event focused on managers and directors from fifteen different counties across the state of Arizona. During the Summit, presenters highlighted the progress that the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) has made towards reducing recidivism, reported on the current trends in corrections, and discussed the future vision of the State. Staff provided guidance on completing sections 3 and 4 of P&I Guide.

National Reentry Resource Center (NRRC) staff facilitated conversations about program goals for the Project Reentry team. On the first day of the site visit, NRRC staff facilitated a discussion about coordination of roles among key members of the project team. Staff then observed the Project Reentry weekly case conference meeting about clients currently enrolled in the program. NRRC staff led conversations about stakeholder engagement and referral pathways into the program and assisted the team with identifying action steps for increasing enrollment into the program.

CSG Justice Center staff met with Halbert Sullivan and colleagues to discuss sustainability and issues with retaining fathers in the program post release. Staff discussed the program's future and the challenges of working within the jail and with a randomized control trial, which they had already submitted a GAN?to change. Mr. Sullivan explained that current participants, even after the award period ends, will still be served by Fathers Support Center.?

During the visit, CSG Justice Center staff and program staff discussed current status of the program and sat in on a fatherhood workshop at one of the partner facilities. Also discussed the status of the evaluation, met with mentors and clients to discuss the program and talked through sustainability with program staff. The grantee is planning to submit a no cost extension.
