This webinar will explore the overlaps in substance use disorder and suicide in correctional settings. It will look at recent trends in suicide deaths in both jails and prisons and how they may be tied to substance use disorder. Dr. Andrew Klein will present case studies of suicide prevention efforts in both jails and prisons through substance use disorder treatment. A chaplain for the Bedford County Sheriff's Office is in search of resources to enhance education on suicide prevention to better assist his agency and help other area chaplains improve their knowledge base as well.

Assessed a request for assistance in identifying appropriate resources for preventing law enforcement officer suicide. Following assessment, resources were identified and distributed to the requestor and additional assistance was offered in the future if needed.

Dispatcher and crisis hotline staff both play important roles in helping individuals in moments of crisis. Although they both share the goal of helping the caller, the steps each role takes can differ greatly. This webinar will teach what those steps are, how shared information can speed up the process, and how each agency can best help the other to save a caller’s life.
