Session 1 of this Community of Practice (CoP) provided pertinent information, guidance, and resources to better address race, gender, equity, and inclusion across law enforcement service delivery and responses directed toward people living with mental illnesses and co-occurring substance use disorders. This CoP was open to all current Connect & Protect Grantees and was supported by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs' Bureau of Justice Assistance.

The Federal Regulations governing the grant programs financially supported by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) require all grantees to monitor, at least once per grant cycle, all elements of their grant narrative against performance goals and compliance with administrative requirements. The purpose of LCCL's monitoring is to evaluate our community partners and their adherence to federal regulations and other policies and procedures relevant to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (OJP-BJA).

In this third of four quarterly convenings for the CBR Track of SCA grantees, CCETAC coaches brought together track grantees and experts for an interactive virtual convening with the purpose of sharing best practices, discussing topics of interest, sharing experiences and lessons learned around Second Chance Employment. Objectives included:
- Considering the national landscape for Second Chance Employment and evidence-based practices for improving employment outcomes
- Exploring innovative approaches for connecting formerly incarcerated persons to meaningful employment

Collaborative partnerships are essential for PMHCs to provide safe and responsive service when responding to calls for service involving people with mental health illnesses. Partnering with other agencies and organizations in the community can also connect PMHC programs to potential long-term funding sources. Participants of this session discussed how they can establish these kinds of community partnerships to help ensure the sustainability of their program.

Strategic communications, program planning, and partnership building are all critical aspects of sustaining a program over time, but one area that programs often need help with is maintaining funding after initial grant funding is gone. During this session, participants discussed how they can plan for financial sustainability to identify and secure long-term financing for their PMHCs. This session covered topics related to determining their programs' budget needs, anticipating funding gaps, and identifying additional funding resources.

The establishment of a Police-Mental Health Collaboration (PMHC) program has made law enforcement agencies more effective at responding to calls involving people with mental illnesses safely and successfully. By creating strategies that focus on sustainability, program planners can help guarantee that these programs are effectively responding to public safety calls long into the future.
