State Agency Administrators (SAA) and Governors’ Criminal Justice Policy Advisors (CJPAs) joined together in Charleston, South Carolina on December 14-15, 2017 for the Institute for State Criminal Justice and Public Safety Executives, hosted by NCJA and the National Governor’s Association (NGA). Representatives from 38 states and territories registered for the event which featured a robust agenda of high priority topics, networking opportunities and discussions.

New & improved: Online Global Reference Architecture training now available

The Global Reference Architecture (GRA) is a framework and set of standards that makes it easier, faster, and more affordable for justice and public safety practitioners to design effective information sharing solutions.  To help these practitioners learn how to use the GRA, SEARCH and the National Center for State Courts developed a new, improved GRA Training course. The free, online course features an easy-to-use training interface that uses narration, video, and written text to provide instruction.

The 2017 National Forum on Criminal Justice: is a true partnership among policymakers, practitioners, researchers and people in the private sector who are dedicated to the ideal of equal justice for all. This conference showcases programs, research and technologies that help justice practitioners and decision makers in states, local communities and tribal nations address pressing public safety issues.

A publication will be developed concerning the Offender Transfer Notification Service (OTNS). OTNS provides notifications to state fusion centers concerning potentially dangerous probationers/parolees transferring to a given state through the Interstate Compact for Adult Offender Supervision (ICAOS) Interstate Compact Offender Tracking System (ICOTS). Currently five state fusion centers participate in the exchange. The manuscript was published in the April 2016 issue of Law Enforcement Technology (LET) magazine.

The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) subcontracted the Institute of Intergovernmental Research (IIR), specifically senior associate Christina Abernathy, to complete revisions on the report "Corrections and Reentry: Protected Health Information Privacy Policy Template for Information Sharing." An initial draft version was produced at the end of 2013. Since its release APPA had sponsored two field tests of the report at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) and Hampden County Sheriff's Department (HCSD) under award #2009-DD-BX-K138.
