First virtual meeting of the Steering Committee was hosted on September 11, 2023. We will continue to host regular meetings of this group.
Virtual Course: During this reporting period, interviews with CenTF SMEs were completed for all seven course module topics. The development process for each module will undergo the following phases: content outline, blueprint, storyboard, alpha and beta reviews, and final confirmation. The following reflects the activity completed for, and status of, each module during this timeframe:
▪ Module one, the storyboard completed a first round of reviews.
▪ Modules two to five, the storyboards are in development.
▪ Modules six and seven are in the blueprint phase.
At BJA’s direction, in lieu of in-person courses, work was underway this reporting period on the new virtual course—the Fundamentals of Task Force Operations training.
During this reporting period, BJA was provided the second semi-annual report for the year July 1 to September 30, 2023 and included details regarding the development of the virtual course and the new podcast series. The report also detailed the number of certificates of completion earned for the four online training offerings.
IIR ensures that there is, within the Leadership lesson of the Fundamentals of Task Force Operations Training curriculum, instruction on the importance of data collection, as well as the value of performance measures to determine and demonstrate the effectives of the task force in addressing and reducing crime. Instruction further includes guidance on setting performance objectives, identifying key performance indicators, and an explanation of how performance measurement is used to develop task force strategies, goals, and objectives.
Held as one of six bi-monthly virtual meetings. The Criminal Intelligence Coordinating Council (CICC), a group under the Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative (Global), supports the development and promotion of resources for local, state, tribal, and territorial law enforcement and homeland security agencies in their efforts to gather and share criminal intelligence to better serve and protect communities nationwide.
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is hosting a Violent Crime Reduction Summit, Partnerships for Safer Communities, on December 11–13, 2023, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The summit aims to bring together partners from across communities working collaboratively to address violent crime. The summit will convene local leadership and federal partners from Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and National Public Safety Partnership (PSP) sites—approximately 1,500 attendees—to examine and enhance public safety and violence reduction strategies.
IIR is recognized for recruiting and retaining the very best SMEs and instructors, ensuring an ongoing infusion of new talent, and employing an internal vetting process for all contractors. IIR will continue to identify, vet, and utilize new instructors, as needed, on an ongoing basis to ensure that relevant experience, diversity, and a range of expertise are available to the program. SMEs will be utilized to support curricula development, instructional efforts, and providing needed resources in support of this program.
During this reporting period, there were no peer-to-peer technical assistance requests received or recommended by BJA. For cost savings, virtual peer exchanges may also be considered as online virtual platforms have been integrated into IIR’s core operations.
