The January 18, 2022 LELCoP Roundtable session was hosted by Mr. Arif Alikhan and Dr. Geoffrey Alpert. This was the third and final follow-up discussion to the PSP Consent Decree and Constitutional Policing Webinar Series. LELCoP members discussed their thoughts on the series, and specifically focused on the topic of innovative ways to engage community partners to build public trust and reduce crime.

As part of the overall use of force policy and training assessment, Baton Rouge PD would like PSP to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their use of force training starting with recruit and going all the way to looking at in service training. BRPD is scheduled to send to Nola Joyce and Jessica Dockstader the curriculums/lesson plans and materials and the current training schedule. Our Subject Matter Expert will then review.

During this period, IIR supported the official launch of the Law Enforcement Leadership Community of Practice (LELCoP) by hosting a virtual kick-off call on March 31. The roundtable involved leadership from all active PSP sites and the discussion focused on their site’s respective violent crime issues and planning and preparations for the Virtual Violent Crime Summit LELCoP roundtable.

Working as public information officers (PIOs) has never been more difficult with the COVID-19 pandemic and recent police protests and civic unrest. To assist PIOs in this difficult environment, PSP established the Public Information Officer Community of Practice (PIO CoP). IIR coordinated a PIO Roundtable discussion held on August 27, 2020 and moderated by SME Ms. Laura McElroy who led a discussion with four different police agency PIOs on the challenges and strategies they have experienced.
