In October, CSG Justice Center staff worked with Alabama Department of Correction Commissioner to develop a slide deck for him to present on the success of justice reinvestment in Alabama to legislators, associations, and community groups to maintain support and momentum for justice reinvestment policies. The PowerPoint deck highlights the impacts and benefits that Alabama has achieved through Act 2015-185 to date and shows how Alabama is doing compared to other states on corrections spending, prison population, and implementing evidence-based practices.
CSG Justice Center staff spoke with the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles (ABPP) and the Governor’s Office regarding subaward spending following the approval of a no-cost extension to allow for additional spending down of remaining subaward funds until December 31, 2017. The subaward extension will allow ABPP to continue spending down funds for staff training and travel and for two IT employee positions completing work on the response matrix application integrated with their offender case management system. The Governor’s Office subaward extension will allow the Sentencing Commission to complete spending on their contract with Applied Research Services to update the agency’s prison population simulation model.
