Present: Jacqueline Somerville, Dr. Joseph Richardson, Dr. St. Vil
CSG Justice Center staff met with Jacqueline, Dr. Richardson and Dr. St. Vil at noon during lunch at the Smart Suite Researcher Practitioner Fellows Academy to go over our comments and suggestions regarding their P&I guide. Mary suggested that since the core team of their Task Force will be making decisions to oversee and implement the project, they should answer “Yes” under Exercise 2, Question 1. We discussed including previously incarcerated people on their Task Force. Dr. Richardson said they have been talking about including them on subcommittees or creating a subcommittee specifically for previously incarcerated individuals. They will also reach out to a retired Judge and someone who works in law enforcement.
For recruitment of participants, they will be telling all incarcerated individuals in the jail who are eligible. They will also be creating a brochure. They clarified that “financial sponsorship” means community support, not funds from the grant. Mary noted that reassessment of participants usually occurs after at least 6 months, which they will note in the P&I guide. Dr. St. Vil said they are working out whether they will use Qualtrics for entering information during screenings and assessments or whether they can utilize ETO electronically. They will provide information on Section 4, Exercises 5 & 6 when they receive information from trainers. We discussed their definition of recidivism in the P&I versus what they provided in the grant narrative. They will check to see how the county defines recidivism and make sure their definition is in sync.
Blaine told Jacqueline he would follow up with them on Monday, July 31, 2017 via email to see how they wanted to proceed in discussing our comments and suggestions on the P&I guide.
