Per our grant, the National Govenors Association leads monthly conference with criminal justice policy advisors (CJPAs) on policy challenges, emerging state issues, and best practices. Calls have taken place the 4th Thursday of every month beginning in July, 2016 and average 10 – 25 callers on each call.

The National Governors Association led these monthly conference calls on various criminal justice-related topics. Calls were held on the 4th Thursday of each month, between July 28, 2016 and July 27, 2017. Guest speakers representing both organizations and academics were also invited to present on the calls. One state - Nevada - presented on their juvenile justice reform efforts. Topics included: movement towards violence as a health issue (briefing by CURE Violence); a national scan of recent state criminal justice legislation (briefing by VERA institute); workplace safety and staff assaults in prisons (academic briefing); a recap of crime rates in 2016 (briefing by Brennan Center); a scan of state criminal justice budgets (briefing by NASBO); public safety considerations due to the increase in traffic fatalities (academic briefing); a federal update from DOJ regarding PREA updates for states (briefing from PREA management office); FirstNet updates (briefing from FirstNet reps); human trafficking (academic briefing); NIBRS (briefing from FBI); and the Nevada Juvenile Justice Reform Efforts (briefing from Governor Sandoval’s office and CSG). An estimated 10 – 25 people participated each month.
