CSG JC staff presented at the conference hosted by the American Probation and Parole Association.
The American Probation and Parole Association’s 2017 Winter Training Institute, in Reno, expects to attract hundreds of professionals involved in the community corrections, juvenile justice and treatment professions in the United States and its territories, and several other countries. These professionals understand the importance of quality education on the latest trends in community justice as well as the need for information on the products and services that enable them to ensure safer communities. By exhibiting at the Institute’s Resource Expo you are not only making a strong presence in this growing market, but you are helping shape the future of community corrections by providing the tools to meet the needs of today’s professionals. There is no better venue to share with community corrections professionals the most current and vital information available on state of the art products, services and technologies than at the APPA Training Institute!

Description: The Integrated Reentry and Employment Strategies (IRES) white paper, published in 2013 by the Council of State Governments Justice Center, was developed to help policymakers, system administrators, and practitioners collaboratively determine whether resources are being efficiently used to connect the right people to the right interventions at the right time. People returning to the community after incarceration have a variety of needs; this population is diverse and require tailored services. The Reentry and Employment Project Manager will describe the framework outlined in the IRES white paper and key components to operationalize tailored client-matching at the systems-level, including integration between the corrections, reentry, and workforce development fields. The regional supervision chief from Milwaukee County, WI – a past Smart Supervision Grant recipient and key stakeholder in the IRES pilot project currently underway– will describe the role that supervision officers can play in connecting people to the right employment services at the right time based on assessment results. The session will conclude with a discussion about leveraging workforce development funds, such as the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA), to support services for the reentry population.
Learning Objectives: After this session, participants will be able to1. Understand the specific challenges related to employment for people and reentry programs2. Recognize the importance of using assessment results to match people to services3. Incorporate service delivery methods that effectively address risk factors4. Identify opportunities to leverage workforce development funding to support services
