In June, CSG Justice Center staff continued to speak with Pennsylvania stakeholders regarding the justice reinvestment policy framework and specific policy options. With the justice reinvestment working group final report completed and ready for release, the CSG Justice Center continued to coordinate with the District Attorneys Association, the Attorney General, Department of Corrections and the Governor’s office to coordinate the public release of the policy framework, which was published in June.

CSG Justice Center staff collaborated with state leaders and working group members to prepare materials that concisely outline justice reinvestment policy details, and inform stakeholders about the key challenges addressed by the process. Additionally CSG Justice Center staff worked with public affairs offices and media outlets in an effort to share information about the working group recommendations Representatives from key constituencies collaborated to demonstrate a broad range of support for justice reinvestment. The Governor, Attorney General, district attorneys, the state victim advocate, county commissioners association, judges and Department of Corrections (DOC) leadership were among those that publicly endorsed the policy package unveiled in the final report.

Additionally, CSG Justice Center staff coordinated to update various community organizations including the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, Prison Society, and Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project to create awareness about the policy framework and strengthen public and community support.

Lastly, CSG Justice Center Staff continued to track the progress of other criminal justice measures being discussed in the state, such as the potential reinstatement of mandatory minimums and the merger of the Department of Corrections and Board of Probation and Parole.
