H.E.A.T. (Habilitation Empowerment Accountability Therapy) is a promising substance use intervention specifically designed for young African American men. Data in Missouri shows that their drug courts are not reaching this population and they want to explore implementing H.E.A.T. more widely across the state through teleservices. Center staff worked with a representative of H.E.A.T. and the statewide drug court coordinator of Missouri, Angela Plunkett to implement this program.

Throughout October 2016 through January 2017 Center staff held multiple phone calls, emails, and conference calls with the statewide drug court coordinator of Missouri, Angela Plunkett, and the founder of the H.E.A.T. program, Darryl Turpin. This correspondence included the development of a concept paper for fundraising purposes, the creation of a work plan, and strategizing about program implementation. On February 3, 2017, Center staff officially contracted with Darryl Turpin to provide consulting services for the project.
Between March 2017-May 2017, Center staff worked remotely with representatives from Missouri and H.E.A.T. to research and select an appropriate platform to administer remote delivery of the H.E.A.T. pilot. The platform selected was VSee, a HIPAA compliant service. During these months, the equipment for the platform was set up in 2 locations, and tested at those locations.
In May and June 2017, this project was postponed due to budgetary issues. The sites were unable to secure other sources of funding, and pending further notice, the project has been put on hold.
