Correctional agencies are responsible for effectively communicating clear and concise policies and directives, particularly when seeking to cultivate system-wide buy-in from stakeholders, staff, and people returning to the community. These policies govern and inform staff behavior, set clear expectations, and confirm that the administration has performed its role. As such, correctional policies cannot be based on whim, but rather should be grounded in evidence-based principles that are proven to be effective.
In this webinar, presenters will:
•Provide an overview of Vermont’s four-step policy development process;
oStep One - Identification and Concept Approval
oStep Two - Drafting the Policy
oStep Three - Public and Staff Comment
oStep Four - Finalization of the Policy
•Discuss an in practice example using Vermont’s new case management directive; and
•Discuss how other jurisdictions can learn from this process and apply it to their recidivism reduction efforts.
