Technical Assistance Completed 3-14-2017
A one-day introduction of Blue Courage was presented to 34 recruits from the Syracuse Regional Police Academy. The recruits were very engaged and willing to enter into discussions. They were provided the materials and given an opportunity to share a quote or story from the Nobility of Policing books. When asked why they desired to enter the profession, to a person, every trainee stated it was because they wanted to give back to their community, help people, do good; and/or because they were positively influenced by a relative or someone in the profession that they looked up to, and were an inspiration to them. Day two was spent with the Blue Courage trained academy staff discussing immersion into the Syracuse P.D., and the Syracuse Regional Police Academy. Due to the east coast snowstorm, Molly Bates and Josh Vinehout, NY DCJS, were unable to attend. Discussions centered on “Law of Diffusion of Innovation” and best practices from other immersion states and academies. Collectively they were putting together a plan to move forward and will submit it to Lt. Dave Gilbertsen, Academy Commander, who will review and discuss with NY DCJS. The Academy’s next step was to present Blue Courage to the FTO’s being assigned to the current academy class.
