Preventing violence is a paramount goal for probation and parole professionals, and it is important to keep current on new developments in this area. This program examines effective approaches to reducing violence through community supervision. Attendees were briefed on various programs that have produced a reduction in violence and recidivism among those being supervised. The presenter will go over issues pertaining to police/probation partnerships and the characteristics of successful programs, culminating in the identification of four key steps for developing effective partnerships. He discussed the types of hazardous duty incidents that may be encountered by probation and parole officers while conducting supervision, with emphasis on the key role that training plays in promoting safe community supervision. An audience participation activity was included in which questions are posed to the audience and their responses are shown and discussed. The presenter then compared research data to the responses of the audience.
