CSG JC staff facilitated a workshop at the APPA conference entitled "Promoting an Integrated and Sustainable Approach to Reentry and Employment"
Supervision officers are often tasked with connecting clients to the most appropriate reentry and employment services. Given the constantly changing landscape of reentry agencies in many communities, referrals may be made to agencies that are successful at placing clients in jobs quickly; however, people returning from incarceration have a variety of needs and require tailored services to address their risk and needs, which those agencies are not necessarily equipped to provide. This session highlighted promising practices for ensuring people are connected to the right employment services at the right time based on their assessed needs, as well as opportunities to leverage workforce development funds, such as the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA), to support services for the reentry population.
Training Objectives:
1.) Understand the specific challenges related to employment for people and reentry programs
2.) Recognize the importance of using assessment results to match people to services
3.) Incorporate service delivery methods that effectively address risk factors
4.) Identify opportunities to leverage workforce development funding to support services
