3-8-17 All staff from Kentucky DOJ and DJJ attended the quarterly conference call with Peg Ritchie, coach. It has been one years since they implemented trauma informed therapy to all DJJ facilities. They continue with monthly clinical consultation with their contractors to assure integration and sustainability of their trauma informed programs. They are completing the second phase of chronic stress training with UCLA Duke Center, in May. Their research is showing that the trauma informed yoga program has reduced incidents and the use of restraints and isolation in their 8 juvenile facilities. They will certify six of their own staff in yoga this year. The DOC continues its investigation training, second round of prison audits (9 in 2017) and 3 halfway house programs before June, 2017. Victim Advocacy groups meet frequently; they are working on LGBTI policies that will standardize these efforts statewide. Challenges: some of their religious providers are having problems with policy language related to LGBTI offenders as they consider these offenders "sinful" and these definitions interfere with their "ministry." The religious community has also challenged some of the DOC periodicals related to LGBTI offender resources. They are interested in training related to the changes in the second round of audits.
They have a GAN extension to 09/2017
Coaching of this demonstration site continued. Update from the site: The Kentucky DJJ and DOC grant has been completed as of September 30, 2017.
