I participated in the training of PREA Compliance Managers and their supervisors focused on Offender Education on PREA facilitated by the JDI team. Additionally, I participated in a meeting of the agency PREA leadership that had as its focus the planning of the next year of work that JDI would be directly involved in.
Linda McFarland recognized that her original team person had not progressed as planned. As a result, she reconfigured the team to include herself. This meeting of PREA leadership had as its purpose to reestablish the intent of the project with new tasks and follow up efforts.
"Check in call with Linda McFarland the provider for this grant site. Linda provided the following updates.
1) Lt. Branden Smith is the new PREA supervisor replacing Lt. Noble.
2) JDI is working through the Jail Tool Kit with the Women's Unit and finding that new understanding are occurring with the key staff working with them.
3) Linda made additional contact with the local Sexual Assault Coalition related to providing follow up services to inmates upon request.
4) JDI continues to work with their inmate education program."
They continue to work with JDI on the following items: inmate education, staff training, staffing plan and screening tool. Additionally, JDI will be working them on housing strategies for the transgender population. JDI will continue to work with the SART team.
JDI continues to be the primary consulting entity on this grant. They are assisting the agency with the following items related to PREA: assisted with 4 Mock Audits; assisted with the offender education program; facilitated the training of new PREA Compliance Managers for all of the facilities; trained new PREA support staff; and assisted in the development of training bulletins that are used to facilitate mini training sessions on PREA.
