Participate on the regular monthly call to discuss each jails updates on their PREA work. Progress appears to be progressing but slowly. JDI is the consultant on the project.
This month's conference call focused on updates in the following areas: Prep for the next round of Audits; Review of all PREA related materials for your respective facilities; use of the new inmate videos; inmate phone lines for accessing confidential outside calls to the Rape Crisis Centers; Curtain installations; Booking area work specific to PREA; review PREA documentation in inmate files to insure accuracy; new signs to be placed next to inmate phones.
Next round of facility audits will begin in March. Currently seeking new Auditors for this second round of audits.1
This month's call focused on grant activities related to videos for offenders update; staffing plan updates; production of monthly flyers for both inmates and staff related to PREA; updates on curtains for each facility; JDI holding small group focus groups with both inmates and staff.
Participated on the monthly conference call with all stakeholders. Discussion focused on items that recent audits revealed were short comings such as re assessments; video training of offenders via kiosk; Interpretative services postings; posters in living areas; phone signs next to the phones; booking practices and PREA; retaliation monitoring; MOU's. Chris Daley from JDI was on the call and offered the following observations and recommendations- new handout on cross gender training; reminded folks to use the staff interview questions in preparing staff for being interviewed by the auditor; new check list for supervisors. Chris shared that JDI would continue the mock audit activity to assist facilities in their preparation for the official audits.
Grant activity proceeding as planned. JDI continues to provide hands on assistance with each of the facilities. Work on audit prep continues, updates to policies continues, monthly newsletter on PREA being sent to each facility, hot line to outside resources in place. This grant will conclude as planned.
