Responses to the field and/or BJA for TTA will occur during the life of the grant.

During the reporting period of 1/1/2017 - 6/30/2017 MSU and the additional TTA partners meet with BJA staff in January 2017. An additional or supporting webinar was offered for the BJA POCs in May as an update to the January meeting and to announce an initial plan for communication and collaboration with all Smart Suite TTA providers. A Smart Suite TTA protocol for contacting all Smart Suite program TTA providers. was created. Contact with those TTA providers began in June. All calls will be completed and summarized during the next reporting period. MSU worked with an individual from the New York Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to develop a Research Partner Frequently Asked Questions Research Partner document as the New York DCJS creates a Research Consortium similar to the Ohio effort. MSU assisted the Smart Defense BJA POC and TTA provider to offer guidance on research partnerships. Partner, GMU, began a supplemental project on evaluation assessment and capacity building for the Reentry and Supervision sites. This is a close, well thought-out interaction with the BJA POC and TTA provider. MSU provided assistance to Compton, CA by providing VRAT feedback in combination with a conference call debriefing, review of their strategic action plan , and guidance on data collection and research partnerships. MSU continued work with the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority to get their state grant funded sites to complete the VRAT. Feedback was provided to four sites and a conference call was held with one site. MSU circulated many new resources and funding opportunity announcements to those who have graduated from the Academy. MSU assisted the Smart Supervision BJA POC with suggestions for a Law Enforcement-Probation Partnerships focus group/meeting. Following Blue Courage's attendance at the February Academy, MSU has remained in contact to provide suggestions or simply observe efforts. Supplemental BJA funds were processed and through MSU for Blue Courage/Ryan Spohn/John Klofas research and evaluation efforts. In June, Ed McGarrell offered the following presentation: “Focused Deterrence Strategies to Reduce Violence.” at the U.S. Department of Justice, National Summit on Crime Reduction and Public Safety. Additionally, Ed participated in a webinar for the Smart Reentry and Smart Supervision sites.
