The National PREA Resource Center's (PRC) Field Training Program (FTP) offers direct field auditing experience in a supervised and supported environment for certified Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) auditors who feel they could benefit from practicing and applying the information they learned during auditor training in an actual audit. The goal is to strengthen auditors' PREA auditing skills, understanding of the standards, and experience with the PREA auditing process and use of the audit instrument. The FTP will also increase auditor capacity to serve the field by giving certified auditors an opportunity to practice the audit process in a real world setting. Experienced auditors will be present as immediate resources during every step of the process.

The PRC submitted and received approval on a proposal to mandate participation in the FTP as a requirement for certification.
The PRC opened a solicitation for Field Training Auditors (FTAs) between October 14, 2016 and November 14, 2016. The PRC received 12 applications for 5-7 positions. Six certified auditors were selected to serve as FTAs between January 2017 and September 2018.
The FTAs selected are: Ana Aguirre, Lisa Capers, Talia Huff, Charlotte Owens, Jerome Williams, and Eric Woodford.
The PRC opened a solicitation for Certified Auditor Trainees (CATs) between October 14, 2016 and November 14, 2016. The PRC received 60 applications for 12 positions in two training audits.
On January 13, 2017, the PRC released a call for applications for FTP host facilities. Interested parties were invited to submit applications via the Formstack portal. The deadline for applications to be considered for participation in these Field Training Program training audits was February 5, 2017. PRC received 30 new applications through the solicitation, in addition to 24 previously-submitted applications that were deferred to this round of review.
As a part of the general operations of the FTP, PRC staff have selected eight facilities and distributed invitations to these facilities for the 2017-2018 FTP training audits. The facilities selected are:

PRC staff selected one additional facility to serve as a backup for auditor trainees who needed to reschedule their assigned audit. The PRC selected Santa Fe Detention Center in Santa Fe, NM.
Release facility application for late 2018-2019 field training audits.
The PRC selected 9 facilities from a pool of 31 applicants and distributed invitations for late 2018-2019 field training audits.
Staff from the PRC and PMO conducted a Facility Orientation Webinar to maintain retention of facilities and answer pending questions regarding the FTP process.
Beginning on February 19, 2018, the PRC solicited applications for up to eight FTA positions. Interested candidates were invited to submit applications, along with a resume, a listing of all PREA audits conducted, their most recently completed audit report, a sample of a corrective action plan, and a letter of recommendation. The
priority deadline for applications to be considered for the 2018-2019 cycle was March 18, 2018.
Met with PMO to debrief 2017-2018 FTP training audits and discuss suggested changes to the program for the 2018-2019 field training audits.

The Field Training Program and Audit Quality and Integrity team collaborated to create a more objective evaluation tool. This evaluation is made for the FTP faculty to assess the capabilities of Auditor Trainees.
Members of the Field Training Program and Audit Quality and Integrity team co-hosted a training for the Field Training Auditors. During this meeting, documents were reviewed and discussed on how they can be utlized as effective training tools for the Field Training Program.

Created the Field Training Program Postponement - Medical Condition policy. It is a policy that addresses the process of FTP postponement for those trainees with a significant medical condition. The FTP manual was updated to have information apply to the 2019 FTP season. There was a rearrangement of information to incorporate feedback from the previous FTP season.
PRC staff put together a listening session for the FTP's field training auditors (FTAs). This was an opportunity for the FTA's to provide feedback on the field training program to the PRC staff. PRC staff developed guided discussion questions for the FTAs to respond to ahead of the meeting. The provided feedback enabled the PRC staff to strengthen the FTP.

In conjunction with the monitoring and evaluation team, the Field Training Program (FTP) team worked to provide information to create a logic model. The FTP logic model illustrates how the FTP is intended to work; it describes a sequence of resources/inputs and activities that are expected to lead to results the program is trying to achieve outputs and outcomes. The logic model will be fundamental for identifying aspects of the FTP that are most critical for tracking and reporting progress of Auditor Trainees and collecting the data that will be needed to monitor and make continual improvements to the FTP.
