The Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police requested training on grant writing and the federal grant procurement process. Mark Fero and Albert Stokes were selected to fulfill the request and delivered a training on finding grant funding sources, identifying regional issues, creating a budget, writing a winning application, and engaging in effective grant management practices, to 29 law enforcement personnel, grants staff, and crime and intel analysts on June 12 - 13, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Description of the Problem

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma is comprised of 11 counties, including Tulsa, and 13 federally-recognized Indian tribes.
The USAO is committed to assisting state, local, rural, and tribal law enforcement agencies reduce crime, increase public safety, and officer safety and well-being.
Goals include providing resources and tools necessary to foster collaboration, communication, and to ensure that law enforcement are better able to serve the community.

BJA grant funding is vital to implementing new programs and strategies to increase public and officer safety.
The TTA needs vary across the district, but generally, per the Chiefs and Sheriffs, they would like assistance with:
--Increasing overall knowledge of grant writing and grant process
--How to identify and address operational needs, then finding the optimal grant
--How to replicate model programs and approaches
--Data collection, analysis, and reporting
--Maintenance of a grant (ie. JAG)
--How to design and enhance information sharing efforts and collaborations
