The PRC will organize and execute an auditor training to train qualified individuals to become certified as DOJ PREA Auditors. The PRC secures a location, develops training materials, invites and coordinates partner faculty to assist in training, and coordinates lodging for all attendees. The PRC invites 50 qualified individuals to attend training. Individuals apply and provide information regarding their qualifications. When the PRC receives an application, designated staff members review and either approve their qualifications and recommend them for invitation or deem them unqualified or not recommended. Before each training, the PRC invites a group to attend and, when the group is finalized, begins preparing them for training. This includes sending out advance work the group is expected to complete and distributing a pre-training exam, as well as sending finalized training materials in advance of training. The training itself includes of 5 full days and a second qualifying examination that is available to the trainees for a week following the in-person training. The training consists of both direct presentation modules with PowerPoints as well as small-group work and interview practice with role playing. Once the training is complete, PRC staff grade the exams and recommend those individuals who passed for field training. Each auditor candidate is assigned a specific field training audit between September 2017 and March 2018. After completion of the field training, auditor candidates are recommended for certification.
