Kelly Stoner met with the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma to discuss the Intertribal Technical Assistance Working Group on Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction over non-Indians (ITWG) meeting and the answer and questions or concerns that arose from attending the ITWG meeting. The ITWG meeting was a one day meeting that had a full agenda and the purpose of the debrief was discuss remaining issues from the ITWG meeting.
Kelly Stoner provided a training on the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorizaton Act of 2013 Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction over non-Indians (SDVCJ) to the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma. The Apache Tribe of Oklahoma is interested in exercising SDVCJ and needed the training to have a more informed opinion on whether or not they would like to exercise SDVCJ. The training covered the history of the VAWA act of 2013, what the statute means for tribes, what are the statutory requirements to exercise SDVCJ, common barriers, what tribes have done to resolve barriers, what to think about when preparing to implement SDVCJ and resources.
