In July, site lead Melissa Threadgill along with members of the CJI training team and other support staff traveled to Utah to give two all-day training sessions for Utah Adult Probation and Parole (AP&P) staff. The first day (July 6, 2016) AP&P staff were trained in Principles of Effective Intervention (PEI), and the second (July 7, 2016) they were trained in Graduated Responses (GR). CJI’s training staff delivered a PEI and GR curriculum and practice activities that reflected the most recent research in both areas and were tailored to UT’s policies and needs. AP&P staff were excited and involved during the training, and CJI received positive feedback on the content and CJI’s training team. (See training evaluation, attached).
The AP&P staff who were trained in July will eventually become trained trainers, ensuring these trainings can be delivered to the full AP&P team even after CJI’s TA ends. To become trained trainers, these staff will need to receive further training, which will happen next month. In July, to prepare for the further training, CJI staff prepared materials and training scenarios which will be crucial in August’s training sessions to prepare AP&P staff to become trainers. Staff also worked with UT to develop a Training Sustainability Plan to ensure AP&P staff and soon-to-be trained trainers have a plan to deliver PEI and GR to the full AP&P team.
