Pre-/Post-surveys, a focus group, staff interviews and structured observation data were collected to assess the intervention process. Recidivism data have been requested in order to conduct impact evaluation.
Program staff constructed separate databases. The first includes participant enrollment status, and responses to the validated risk-need screening tool. The second includes group-level quantitative data (i.e., pre- and post-intervention surveys, group attendance patterns, and structured observation data).
The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services approved a request for rearrest data among participants in the treatment and control groups. The impact evaluation is pending receipt of this data.
Qualitative data, informs the process evaluation, includes individual interviews with intervention facilitators, as well as a focus group with program staff who conducted structured observations of each of the five treatment cohorts. Preliminary analysis of these, as well as of the group-level quantitative data, informed revisions that resulted in the penultimate curriculum draft.
NYS DCJS submitted to the research team a complete dataset including 6-month re-arrest and criminal history data for intervention and control groups.
Drawing on existing qualitative and group-level data, the writing of the process evaluation has begun.
Impact and process evaluations were completed, and subsequent reports drafted and submitted to BJA separately for review.
