A request for technical assistance was received by the tribe on 4/30/15. Kim Cobb and Lucinda Yellowhair, Probation Supervisor, discussed the TA request on 6/5/15. Cindy would like Kim to provide a full day of training for her 28 probation officers on Report Writing (specifically PSI writing and recommendations) and an overview of reentry and their role in the reentry process. However, due to an illness in Kimberly’s family, the TA had to be postponed. The request changed into delivering 2 full days of training at the Navajo Nation Probation Academy (for new hires and refresher training for seasoned officers) plus 1 officer from Nez Perce, 1 from Yakama, and 1 from Cour de Lene Tribe. Kimberly Cobb traveled to Tuba City, AZ to deliver 2 days of training on the role of community corrections, EBPs (assessment, graduated responses, leveraging families, Motivational Interviewing, Report writing, and reentry). Participants included 13 officers from Navajo Nation, 1 officer from Yakama, 1 officer from Nez Perce, and 1 officer from Couer d’Alene. On 11/19/15, Kim sent a follow up email to participants along with the Desktop Guide and Victims Guide and indicated they would be added to the tribal database to be notified of upcoming trainings, etc. The onsite technical assistance report submitted to BJA on 12/3/15.
