I joined the regular conference call with all regional jail participants this morning. The Regional Jail and Correctional Authority has established PREA contact persons for each regional jail and they participate on monthly conference calls.
Held my initial phone call with Scott who provided me with a quick update. They have several audits to date and for the most part all were successful audits. They are working with JDI who has been on site several times thus far. Scott suggested that I join their by weekly conference call with all of the PREA related individuals from across the regional jail operations. I agreed to join them starting 9/10/15 at 8:00 am my time.
Spoke with Cedric Greene this morning who is the point of contact for the operations portion of the grant.
Cedric shared that they want to pursue a no cost extension with BJA. He shared with me that of the 10 facilities, 8 have passed their PREA audits with the remaining 2 to be audited prior to June 30, 2016. I asked him about challenges to date with the grant and he shared that getting all of the CO's trained was the most difficult. The extension would assist them in getting all of the training done.
Held our monthly conference call this morning. Chris Daley from JDI joined the call. Discussion covered the following areas: new training curriculum being drafted and tested at the Academy; continued work on the delivery of offender education materials and focusing on the challenges in accomplishing that task; JDI has drafted and provided to the sites a brief pamphlet that is designed to help keep the line staff current on their responsibilities related to investigations and evidence handling.
Chris Daley indicated on the call that he is hopeful that the grant will request a no cost extension so that the project goals and objectives can all be realized.
Monthly conference call with all of the PREA Coordinators across the regional jails in West Virginia.
