IACP's Smaller Department Section, comprised of nearly 200 smaller agency police chiefs, is a leading national voice for issues relating to smaller law enforcement agencies. The Section identified officer retention to be one of the key issues facing small agencies. We worked with the Section to plan a presentation on how small agencies can address the issue. The presentation, "How to Develop and Keep Good Employees" was planned to be held in conjunction with the Smaller Department Section's Mid-year meeting in San Antonio, TX and will be opened up to all local law enforcement agencies.

We worked with the Smaller Department Section Chairman, Chief Tom Wickman of the Frisco, CO, Police Department, to plan the presentation. Retired smaller agency police chief Ronald Glidden was selected to lead the TA presentation, having conducted a very popular workshop on the topic during the 2014 Smaller Agency Track. Logistical arrangements were completed for staff and consultant travel.
The session, "How to Develop and Keep Good Employees," was presented in conjunction with the Smaller Department Section's Mid-year meeting. It was promoted to the Section and all local law enforcement agencies in the area. Five participants attended the session on Saturday, February 28. Follow up was conducted in the following week.
