The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) has recently implemented the requirements of Senate Bill 182 known as The Transgender Respect, Agency, and Dignity Act. The reality of this bill’s implementation has resulted in the need for cultural awareness training and education for CDCR staff and both cis- and transgender people in CDCR custody. CDCR PREA Coordinator, Captain Shannon Stark, requested technical assistance (TA) from the National PREA Resource Center (PRC) to develop educational videos. Create a series of four (4) videos that are five to ten minutes each and are specific to CDCR’s unique circumstances and four (4) alternate, and create a general version that can be disseminated nationally via the PRC. CDCR will use their film crews, negating the need to hire an outside film crew. JDI staff will provide a Spanish translation of the scripts and voiceover for each video. A facilitator guide will be developed to accompany the videos
