Corresponded with grantee 3 times between July and September 2024 on 7/9, 09/03, 9/11/2024
Summary of Successes
Low barrier housing (not directly related) 24 hour drop off, great opportunity with LE to have a place to drop people off. Resource for LEAD team as place to do outreach and to recommend to people. Can help with staff feeling defeated when they can’t take someone to the shelter
Increase in referrals from LE and the community for LEAD. Getting newer officers in and they are the ones making referrals. New officers are meeting with Cristina as part of their orientation.
Working on youth objective to create early intervention for justice-impacted caregivers and found a curriculum and sending 5 staff in Sept to get training. Will start in October.
Family Wellness coach with different SAMHSA grant
Hosted Ice Cream truck event where LE provided Ice cream to Youth in high call areas 140+ kids were served.
Cristina working with Fraternal Order of Police to help build that relationship.
Summary of Challenges
Not much luck with Hancock County Sheriff dept. But the new sheriff is starting in January, and Cristina has been in contact with him.
OD map enhancing the usage of it. Concerned with ID of overdoses as there seems to be some lacking ODs. No overdose since April seems of a concern. Precia suggested bringing this up with their full task force. And educating on the OD map with other committees.
Ongoing issue they are working through is data of LEAD engagement and contacts, trying to modernize their data process, hopeful that by end of the year they will have a working streamlined data system.
Last big goal is vision for Co-Responder (proposal with CHJ) Need LE and justice system to be at the table. Did hold a meeting with the team and it seemed to be well received but were missing key people.
Working on building out ordinance on unhoused due to new supreme court ruling. This may be a source of more LEAD referrals. (want to use our TA to help connect this with the dropoff center, LEAD, and the youth so all players can see the connections)
