In October, CSG Justice Center staff continued to meet with WADOC staff to discuss the progressing partnership with the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) to complete the legislation proposal for the Superior Court DV Court. WADOC's legal department has sent a draft scope of work agreement and contract to the YWCA legal department for review.
YWCA continues to have independent and collaborative meetings with legislative partners and the Washington State Coalition on DV to design the proposal and concept regarding the Superior Domestic Violence Court. WADOC and YWCA anticipate the legislation proposals taking place at the January 2025 session. While the CSG Justice Center team will not be proposing the legislation, they will continue to offer guidance regarding the partnership with YWCA.
WADOC reports that they are actively reviewing the budget and will be submitting a GAM to BJA for review and approval. The GAM will remove Spokane Regional Domestic Violence Coalition (SRDVC) as a sub-awardee on the grant and reduce the funding allocated. WADOC will also be adding YWCA as a sub-awardee/contractor on the grant for the work that they are doing for the legislation proposal.
WADOC has successfully hired for the vacant Community Corrections Officer 3 (CCO3) position on the grant, with a start date of October 7, 2024. Of the 31 participants currently enrolled in the program, five failed to report, one was detained for new charges, three were picked up on warrants from other counties, and 21 are actively engaged in the program.
