HAVEN of Lee County in Sanford, North Carolina has requested training and technical assistance to help their staff provide support to incarcerated survivors in their service area. Provide training on the PREA standards related to advocacy, best practices for providing in-person and remote support to incarcerated survivors, and accompaniment during forensic exams and investigatory interviews.
This is the second TA the PRC has received from a North Carolina-based victim advocacy organization. JDI suggested combining the TAs as a way to maximize resources, and allow attendees to network with one another. The training will occur on September 19 and 26, 2024.
HAVEN also requested coaching which JDI will accomplish through its grant with the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). This grant has funds dedicated to coaching victim advocacy organizations that seek to provide or improve existing services to incarcerated survivors. HAVEN leadership will receive four (4) one-hour coaching sessions, plus an intake session. Like the PRC TA, the coaching sessions will be provided free of charge.
JDI will develop and distribute a survey for HAVEN staff members to develop specific content for the training.
