Grantees reported they received quotes for the camera project at the Southern Mississippi Institution (SMCI). A vendor has not been selected for the camera project at SMCI.
The team discussed updates on the data collection process. Staff are working on pulling numbers from the current investigations database to determine the database's ability to have a flag for those investigations involving PREA. The object is to be able to pull out those numbers for comparison purposes. Unsubstantiated allegation data is being gathered manually.
The coach discussed with PREA Coordinator's desire to have First Responder Cards made for the facility staff. The coach provided the PC with an example of First Responder pocket card and the grant manager with information on subsequent NCE request.
The coach provided the Commissioner with an update on grant progress. There was concern expressed that the camera installation goal may not be met by the grant deadline. The coach corresponded with the Deputy Commissioner about the need for expediency on meeting camera installation timeframe. The coach discussed the possibility of submitting an NCE; however, the grantee was encouraged spend the funds by the September 30, 2024 deadline.
The PC will attend the PREA Coordinators Working Group Conference on July 23-25, 2024.
