CSG continues to conduct a reentry system assessment in Alabama as part of intensive TA activities. Data mapping call held on 5/31/24 with Bill Powell, ISTC, and CSG research division staff to gather information about reentry-related measures currently collected/reported and how data are shared with ABPP. Virtual interviews and focus groups held during the month with the following stakeholders: 5/6/24 with ABPP (Stacey Brown) on field operations; 5/6/24 with Alabama Appleseed (Carla Crowder, Kathleen Henderson) on reentry services and challenges related to housing and employment; 5/8/24 with ADOC (Dr. Elizabeth Mautz) on women's programming and reentry support in corrections; 5/10/24 with ISTC (Dr. William Young, Dr. Craig Shore) on employment training and job placement support; 5/13/24 with YesCare (Kim Randolph) on reentry case coordination related to medication, treatment, and health insurance; 5/14/24 with R.O.S.S. (Carla Bugg, Kristin Rhudy) on recovery peer specialist support, case coordination around reentry, and reentry challenges; 5/15/24 with ABPP (Scott Perkins) on institutional parole services and mandatory supervised release; 5/16/24 with ABPP (Griffith Waller) on legislative opportunities related to economic mobility; 5/17/24 with Offender Alumni (Dena Dickerson) related to peer support services in reentry; 5/20/24 with ABPP docket unit (Quenetta Fenderson, Shikenia Harrell) on calculating parole eligibility, and gaps and challenges with calculations; 5/22/24 with the Alabama Sentencing Commission (Bennet Wright, Melisa Morrison) on sentencing and policies across the state's courts; 5/23/24 with AltaPoint (Misty Bowen, Brandie Johnson) on mental health and substance use treatment provided in reentry; 5/28/24 listening session with ISTC job placement and reentry team on preparing students for employment, cultivating partner employers, and obstacles to hiring; 5/2924 with People Engaged in Recovery (Larry Vahle) on peer services and case coordination; 5/30/24 listening session with ABPP institutional parole officers on completing parole reports, screenings and assessments, and interviews; and 5/30/24 with Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences (Curt Lindsley) on recovery housing in reentry. In response to another TA request related to support with housing, CSG staff held a call on 5/9/24 with Nicole Walden, Associate Commissioner, ADMH, Kathy Sawyer, Associate Commissioner, ADMH, Lisa McCarroll, CEO, Naviagte Affordable Housing Partners, Julie Reynolds, COO, Navigate Affordable Housing Partners, and Doug Turner, Consultant with Navigate Affordable Housing Partners on state's challenges with the 811 rental assistance program.
