Attend the NPCWG 6th annual National PREA Coordinators Conference to be held in Buffalo, NY on July 23-25, 2024. a 90-minute, plenary session on ensuring the safety of people with disabilities and Deaf people who are in their custody. The session, Supporting Incarcerated People with Disabilities and Deaf People: The PREA Standards
and Beyond, will include: a review of the relevant PREA standards, basic information regarding the access needs, and a discussion of cultural fluency and best practices for supporting incarcerated people with disabilities and Deaf people. The session will include scenarios, be interactive, and describe best practices. The presenters will make clear the distinction between the minimum PREA standard requirements versus best practices, inspiring participants to set goals for both where they are now and where they would like to be.
Activating Change (AC) will work with PRC partner Just Detention International (JDI) to develop and present the session.
