Deep Dive Saturday was a training event held in conjunction with the American Jail Association (AJA) 43rd Conference and Jail Expo held on May 18-22, 2024 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. AJA's Conference and Jail Expo brings together more than 2,200 jail practitioners from across the country to train, network and meet on issues facing the Nation's jails. Just Detention International (JDI) and the National PREA Resource Center (PRC) paartnered together and hosted a day-long Deep Dive Saturday event for jail practitioners that included an art workshop to explore art as a tool for processing and healing from trauma and staff wellness; interactive sessions on the challenges and opportunities inherent in the PREA standards that address 1) community partnerships, and 2) supporting transgender and non-binary incarcerated people and staff; and a conversationwith the PRC about needs, challenges and forthcoming resources to aid in PREA implementation.
